Thank you to everyone who donated and supported our fundraiser for the people of Denan, Ethiopia.
Due to your amazing generosity, we have been able to well surpass our fundraising goal of $30,000! 100% of every dollar raised has provided food supplies to the people of Denan, who desperately need the provisions.
It is also our great pleasure to announce that a major international aid organization has been able to re-commence their ongoing aid to the region, ensuring that basic food aid is again available. This is great news, not only for the people of the Denan region, but also for our organization, as we can now go back to our original mission of focusing on our core projects – our hospital, agricultural and water initiatives, educational programs and micro-loans. Any future donations earmarked towards food supplies, however, will still be gratefully received, as the need continues to be enormous.
We are so grateful for the support of our donors, our supporters and the volunteers who made this fundraiser possible. Together, we have been able to provide emergency aid to the people of this region when it was desperately needed. With your help, we have saved lives and brought critical attention to this ignored corner of the globe.
We, and the people of Denan, thank you.
Emergency Food Relief –
Denan, Ethiopia
Denan is home to a camp for refugees and internally displaced persons located in remote southeastern Ethiopia. For years the people living in this area have struggled to survive, battling not only an unforgiving landscape and temperatures that soar daily to well over 110°F, but also a lack of regular water, intermittent aid from government and non-government agencies, and threats from an armed separatist movement.
Now, however, these difficult conditions have become unbearable, as the food shortage which has affected much of the rest of Ethiopia has also reached Denan.
A recent trip by our founder, Dick Young, confirmed what our on-the-ground partners have been telling us—the situation is grave. People are starving. In some parts of Ethiopia the drought has been named Mulia, which means, ‘that which erases everything on the ground.’ There is no food.
Due to the generous donations of a few members of our Board of Directors, Dick was able to provide some food supplies while he was there. But we need to do more.

We plan to provide two meals a day for 10,000 people, for a total of 600,000 meals – enough to feed those most in need for one month. The cost, at just 5 cents for each meal, includes necessary transportation and distribution costs.
As you may already know, Denan was the birthplace of The Denan project. For the past 12 years, we have provided free, quality health care to approximately 30,000 people per year, as well as providing other programs for agricultural, water, and economic-development. Our ultimate goal, here, and in the other communities in which we work around the world, is to encourage long-term self-sustainable solutions. But when feeding one’s children becomes a daily struggle, when hunger pains do not lessen, it is not possible to focus on anything else.

How can you help?
